Bringing a second dog house demands a lot of thought. It means a complete alter in your “normal” family members routine. It matters not whether the new dog is a puppy or an adult. There are lots of issues to consider prior to you bring the new pet house. It’s not just a matter of bringing the new dog home and you all will reside happily ever following (although that may be a remote possibility.) You have to take time to think this new undertaking through and mull over these concerns: Are you currently living on a tight budget? A second dog will need annual vet visits, will require food, toys, maybe a new crate and possible training classes. A second dog requires “time.” Do you’ve additional time to play, for walks, time to groom your pet, time for feeding, coaching and extra clean up? Does your current dog have any behavioral problems? A new dog may not have the ability to teach your old dog to quit misbehaving. You could wind up with two dogs every with poor behaviors, creating matters worse. Do you’ve the patience to adhere to “dog pack’ rules? Although you’re the LEADER, two dogs are a pack and one or the other will turn out to be the second leader. If it’s the new dog, can you adjust to following the guidelines? The leader dog gets to be “first” in all issues and you can’t alter that. Attempting to change what is natural dog behavior will cause conflict and “big difficulty.” Are you currently prepared for the resident dog to begin misbehaving, such as using the home as a potty location, chewing things and just becoming destructive in general? The newcomer might upset your pet. Is your present dog friendly with other dogs and people? In case your resident dog is really a “bully,” your probabilities of finding a “friend” for him/her are slim. Training classes for your present dog perhaps the answer prior to you plunge into getting another dog. How will be the tension level in your household? Have you moved, added a new family member or has anything else occurred to upset the regular routine of the household? Dogs stress out throughout modifications in their routine. Times of stress aren’t a great time to bring home a new dog. Get great bonuses on the site with no registration casino uk. Limited offer. Are you pleased together with your dog correct now? A second dog could bring changes in your dog’s personality. The two dogs could truly bond and might favor becoming together, ignoring you, except for food and treats. Are you currently prepared to accept that? Read these concerns a few times and answer them truthfully. Becoming truthful will help eliminate you making a mistake. Some dogs really don’t want a “companion,” they’re as happy as a clam becoming the “only dog.” The actual query here is “is it you that desires a brand new dog?” Once you have made up your thoughts and truly feel that an additional dog will probably be an added benefit to your household. There are a few much more things to think about like: puppy, young adult or an older dog. That will depend on your resident dog. Puppies are most likely simpler to introduce for your current dog, as a puppy doesn’t seem as an intruder, only as a pest. In the event you decide on a puppy, please keep this in mind. Puppies don’t realize they’re supposed to behave in a certain way till they are about 4 months old. Until they’re old enough to know all this “dog stuff,” it’ll be as much as you to protect the puppy from the older dog and protect the older dog from the puppy. The puppy will drive the older dog crazy at occasions. Puppies wish to play; older dogs will play to get a small while then want to stop. It’s as much as you to give your older pet, free time away from “fluff and stuff.” Do not below any circumstances leave the puppy and older dog alone with out supervision. Usually put the puppy in its crate or put your resident dog in a safe room if you are leaving the home or cannot supervise. The older dog could unintentionally injure the puppy, if the puppy pesters the older dog as well a lot. Adding a young adult dog or an older dog for your household requires a lot more tact together with patience and planning. You are going to require assist with this one. Step quantity one; the dogs will have to meet on neutral ground. To complete this you will need help of a buddy or perhaps a relative (not a member of one’s household.) The dogs need to meet in a place your dog has never been, which will be the neutral territory. It can be a park, a neighbor’s yard, or if all else fails a parking lot. Both dogs need to be on a leash and introduced casually. Allow them to do all the “doggy things,” like smelling one another, their stance may be rigid, but for the very first meeting that is okay. However, in the event you hear growling or see lip curling, calmly move them apart. Stay calm and do not be nervous, talk towards the dogs in a “happy voice.” After a few minutes try to introduce them once more, but do not let them get as well close together. When the growling and lip curling happens again it is a good bet that these two won’t ever be friends. Whatever you do, don’t try to force a friendship. You will only be searching to get a fantastic deal of trouble when you get them home. Dogs will fight and if they do not like each other, it can be disastrous for you and also the dogs. In looking to get a new dog (not a puppy) try to discover a dog whose personality matches that of your dog. If your dog is outgoing and friendly, find 1 that’s equally so. If your dog is quiet and gentle, don’t bring home a dog that is extremely active and playful, the match much more than likely won’t function. Female dogs which have been the only dog within the home appear to possess a harder time adjusting to a brand new “friend.” Dogs which have been socialized and get along nicely with other dogs have an easier time relating to a new dog in the household. Certainly one of the first rules in raising a puppy is “socialize, socialize and socialize” some much more. If you have followed that rule, adding a new dog ought to be simpler. Once the introductions have already been made and it’s time to bring the two dogs home a great suggestion is “do not bring them house together” in the same vehicle. Let the person who helped you using the introduction bring the new dog house. It’s a suggested procedure that when you have both dogs at home you maintain their leashes on them. It’ll be simpler for you personally to help keep control if you have to by getting a leash to grab on to. When the new dog is close in age to your resident dog there is bound to be a little of aggression going on. You now possess a “pack,” it’ll be necessary for the two dogs to determine which one is going to become second in charge (you are the actual leader) and this decision may take some haggling. Acceptable aggressive behavior should last to get a few seconds (10 –20 seconds) and may consist of some growling, lip curling, snarling, snapping and possibly pinning certainly one of the dogs down by the neck. Unacceptable aggressive behavior could be biting to draw blood or any from the above behaviors that last much more than a couple of seconds. One of the dogs might exhibit submissive behavior and this is to become expected also. Barking like a puppy, rolling more than on its back, tail in between its legs, running away from the other dog are all acceptable submissive behaviors. It may take the dogs a week or two to settle on who’s the leader and whilst that is going on Do not let them alone together unsupervised. Put the dogs in separate locations or in their crates, do not let them be together until you’re particular they have settled their ranking and will get along. The hardest factor for you will be following their choice especially if your first dog is no longer the “number one.” The essential thing right here is that you abide by their decision regardless of how hard it will be for you personally. The quantity one dog gets the first treats, is initial out the door, is initial to become fed and so on. Speaking of feeding, give each dog their very own bowls and their own consuming spot, don’t let 1 steal food from the other. Expect your initial dog to undergo some tension and probably some misbehavior patterns as this new addition will be upsetting to it and the dog will need to adjust. It’s up to you to expect these issues and act accordingly. Keep in mind your dog didn’t ask for a new friend. It was your thought. As the old saying goes “you made your bed now lie in it.” It might take a month or much more to get a routine to establish and peace to rein supreme once again in your household. In the event you maintain the dogs apart when you aren’t house to supervise and also you make the time they spend together “fun” they will soon turn out to be friends, maybe not “best buddies,” but close sufficient to appreciate becoming together. Don’t forget that you’re the LEADER, the boss supreme, and you run the show, and both dogs need to follow your orders initial. Don’t beat, hit or otherwise use force to make a point, be patient, stern if necessary and the majority of all Consistent in what you’re asking from the dogs. What are you still waiting for, go immediately to tragaperras now is the time to start playing and winning! 1 final point: physical exercise will be the secret to keeping your dogs too tired to argue with one another. Exercise relieves their tension (and perhaps yours. as well) and tired dogs behave much better.
You’ve performed three from the most significant tasks for a dog owner: decided in the event you were right for a dog, determined what dog was the very best for you and taught your best buddy some manners. That should be about it, right? Incorrect! You have an ongoing connection with your pet, just like you do your children or your spouse. It is essential to maintain the connection if you want it to become fruitful. In the event you do not, all of that coaching you have done so far will be for naught. Sometimes, though, like all relationships, the 1 together with your dog can be rocky. Even well-trained owners have dogs with behavior issues when things change. Dog have already been known to act out when their owners becoming working more hours, go back to school, possess a baby or get married. Dogs aren’t themselves when they are ill or in discomfort. Some dogs are just by no means quite correct because of issues inherited from poor breeding. Here are nine issues you can do to ensure your well-behaved dog stays that way. 1. Do not forget that you are leader of the pack. Remind your self that your dog is genetically programmed to become part of a group and to obey the leader of his pack. In the event you do not provide him consistent strong, yet fair, leadership, he will try to become the leader. If he becomes the leader by default, behavior issues will increase exponentially. Here are some tips to make sure he remembers you are his leader: – Don’t let him pull on his leash. – Do not put the leash on your dog until he sits quietly. – Don’t let him get away with poor behavior. – Usually eat before he does. – Don’t chase or play rough games like tug-of-war with your dog. – Do not allow him to bite anyone. – Usually go through doorways before him. – Try to always be calm, fair and confident when coping with your dog. – Do not give him something – interest, food, play – with out him performing something for you first, like sitting on command. – Don’t permit your dog on furniture without your permission. – Shield your dog from other animals or individuals who try to harm him. When you are a powerful leader, your dog will respect you. With this respect comes an innate want to please. He will adore you and wish to obey your every command! 2. Train with your dog each day. Just like with humans, any behavior you train your dog to do will probably be forgotten if he doesn’t practice it. Function with your dog a minimum of 15 minutes each day on an aspect of his behavior. This really is essential, also, to remind your canine that you are the leader of his pack. Try to teach your dog some thing new every month or two. This may maintain him challenged and give you each a sense of accomplishment. Most dogs had been bred to complete some kind of function, and in the event you don’t give your dog objective, he’ll turn out to be bored and create behavioral issues. 3. Make sure to give your dog treats and praise. Continue the method you’ve used to train your dog. People tend to get complacent, and prior to you realize it, Spot is hogging your bed and dragging you down the street by the leash. To create issues worse, he will not listen to your commands any more. To stop this, make your dog perform an act of obedience to earn praise, petting or a treat. 4. By no means strike or yell at your dog. Hitting or kicking your dog will have concerning the exact same effect that it would on a spouse or a kid – it ruins the connection and breaks down all of the trust your pet had for you. Some owners use physical abuse to train their dogs to fight for money. Other people believe, erroneously, that abuse will make them turn out to be better watch or attack dogs. Statistics show that thousands of dogs are killed or injured by individuals every year. Regardless of how frustrated you get with him, never, ever strike your pet. Dogs do not respond nicely to yelling. All it does is get your dog much more stressed, which will more than likely make his behavior issues worse. Everybody loses their patience from time to time, but remember that your dog only responds to fair leadership. 5. Get your dog correct medical care. Your dog requirements a checkup at the veterinarian annually to ensure he’s in top form physically and to receive yearly shots to prevent rabies as well as other illnesses. It’s essential to visit the same vet every year so he or she can monitor your pet and notice any evidence of issues. All dogs need a teeth cleaning from time to time, too, to keep them wholesome. If your dog is injured or sick, he needs to get proper medical interest. Your veterinarian can also give you guidance on behavior in addition to diet, breeding, coaching, and puppy selection 6. Attend obedience coaching. As an absolute necessity for obtaining a great to a positive connection with your dog, be sure to take him to a six-to-eight-week-long obedience class, before his initial birthday if he’s a puppy, as soon as you possibly can if he’s an adult dog. A good trainer will teach you the fundamentals and what a great dog/owner connection is. If you have an adult dog, don’t worry. That old saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” isn’t accurate! A dog of any age can learn great behavior. Each you as well as your dog will benefit. He will learn some good behavior and to respect you, the leader of the pack. You’ll learn the subtleties of one’s dog’s behavior and how to act inside a fair, yet dominant, manner. Obedience training is great way to teach an “only dog” how to correctly socialize with other dogs and individuals. Whether you are alone with your dogs or in a group of people and animals, your dog will learn how to behave. Right here are some tips to help you determine what obedience class will be the correct 1 for you personally as well as your pet: – Ask your friends, family members, vet or groomer for suggestions. – Make sure the trainer makes use of good reinforcement and no techniques that hurt or frighten the dogs. – Choose a trainer that focuses primarily on group classes. Even though it might appear like one-on-one coaching might be very best, group classes give both you and your dog to observe other individuals and their pets. Your dog will also concentrate on your commands, not just those from the trainer. Some owners do both person and group classes. – Make certain you will find separate classes for puppies and adult dogs. Dogs in between eight and 16 weeks should be in puppy classes. You might also feel more comfy with a trainer who offers starting, intermediate and advanced obedience classes. – Ask the trainer you’re considering if you can watch a class. While you watch, note some of these details: Notice if the class is little enough that everyone can get some individualized interest. Watch to determine if both and dogs and owners are getting fun. See if the trainer provides lesson handouts. Inside a great class, you will hear plenty of praise and commands in upbeat, yet firm, tones. Does the trainer give the owners other info about health, grooming or particular breeds? You would like to make sure your trainer is knowledgeable concerning the whole dog, not just obedience training methods. – Ask your trainer if he or she knows several various techniques to work with dogs. This can are available in handy in case your dog does not usually respond to the tried-and-true techniques. – Make certain that the trainer demands that dogs be vaccinated and certified wholesome by their vet before enrolling in classes. – Be sure to get a list of equipment you’ll have to bring with you to your first class. As soon as you discover the right trainer and obedience class, make certain both you as well as your dog are ready. Be sure to bring all of the required gear. Do not feed your dog prior to class – since treats are part from the reinforcement of good behavior, you would like him to be prepared to eat the treats, which he may not want if he has a full belly. Do not forget to do your homework! Practice between classes is essential to reinforce your dog’s behavior. 7. Lean all you can about your dog, his breed, and canine care. You are able to by no means know as well a lot with regards to your dog. Discover all you can from books, television and magazines. Make sure just to take the time to browse in the pet provide shop or your favorite online pet supplies merchant to see what kind of new products are in the marketplace. A new toy from time to time is a new adventure for each you as well as your pet. 8. Keep your dog’s house safe and stimulating. Giving your dog a enjoyable, secure place to reside will help to stop bad behavior and might even prolong his life. Usually possess a quantity of fun toys accessible, including balls, chews and squeaky toys. Make sure to play together with your dog every day to give him the essential exercise he needs, to assist you bond together with your pet and to just have enjoyable! If no one is home throughout the day, leave a talk radio station on. Maintain your pet out of locations of one’s house where he might eat something toxic or injure himself. Maintain your fence nicely maintained. If your dog begins to have behavior issues, don’t despair! There’s nothing to say that you cannot start coaching him to change his behavior! Having a small patience and perseverance, you will be able to eliminate most poor behavior. Within the most extreme instances, you might not be able to stop the behavior, but with training your dog will show improvement. Some issues will not be entirely eliminated, especially in the event you chose a dog that doesn’t have the temperament for your way of life. But even some of those dogs can change if you have a great dog/dog owner connection. Now we’ll appear at a few of the most common behavior problems and how to re-train your dog to behave appropriately.
Aggression is one of the primary reasons that dogs are euthanized or re-homed; a minimum of 30% of all dogs in rescue centers are there because of the incidence of aggressive behavior in one form or another. It is actually unusual to have a dog that is aggressive to have just 1 type of aggression; most dogs have much more than certainly one of the following types of behavior. It could be prudent, before embarking on a program of aggressive behavior modification, to rule out any medical reasons for that behavior, particularly if there is a sudden alter within the dog’s temperament. Their are some fifty-odd different medical factors why a dog might be displaying aggressive tendencies, these range from Discomfort to Thyroid Dysfunction, Epilepsy to Hypoglycemia and Diabetes. The following is a list of the more common aggressions and why they may be occurring. This is only a component of the total kinds. Due to the constraints of space it could only be a fleeting reference. 1. Fear / Nervous Aggression (Interdog) Fairly often, this behavior has its roots directly towards the pup’s mother. Breeders that breed from fearful and timid bitches will often make excuses as to why you can’t see the dam. In the event you do view a litter of puppies and also the mother is fearful, then do not even consider purchasing the puppy. It’ll be nearly a certainty that the pups will inherit some of the mother’s traits, through both genetics and socialization, genetically the pups might inherit her timidity and through the time they’re with her will observe her fear and adhere to suit. Scientific study has shown that even the pups which are born to a solid and stable mother that are then put having a bitch that’s fearful, they’ll choose up a few of the unstable habits from the fearful dog. Other factors for this fear kind of issue is when the puppy or adult dog is attacked by another dog, particularly whilst on the lead, with no means of escape and restricted from showing submissive body language towards the attacker. Lack of early socialization can also have an impact on this kind of behavior, If the young pup, especially in between the age of seven and sixteen weeks, is not cautiously socialized with each adult and pups alike, then they don’t discover to “meet and greet”. The complex physique language dogs learn at this age is crucial to their later behavior when approaching unknown dogs. If they’re unable to either perform or comprehend the greeting rituals, then they’re immediately viewed with suspicion by the approaching dog, and conflict may arise How can you tell if it’s fear? With nervous and worry aggressive dogs, you will find that they will react aggressively to any dog, no matter whether it’s male or female. The behavior is frequently worse if the dog is on the lead or is cornered, particularly if close to the owner, who backs up the behavior, (though unwittingly) by becoming nervous and agitated because the other dog approaches. This manifests itself inside a tightening up on the lead and shoulders. Nervous owners also kick out a cloud of adrenaline that the dog immediately detects, this causes it to appear for what’s causing the concern. It sees the dog approaching and reacts accordingly. This kind of dog is also normally a barker, it’ll lunge and bark in the approaching dog but generally won’t snap unless all its choices have run out. ie flight or freeze and following all its threat posturing the other dog has nonetheless got as well close. This issue can often be diagnosed if somebody who is confident about dogs (that the dog does not know nicely) takes it out on the lead. It will not get exactly the same fearful vibes from the owner, therefore the reaction to another dogs approaching will be much less intense. It is a good way of finding out in case your dog suffers worry aggression, as the behavior will either not be exhibited or will probably be less pronounced. The owner can then use a desensitization plan for each the dog and themselves. 2. Worry / Nervous Aggression (Inter-human) As soon as again, this can be brought on through lack of early socialization, bad breeding and sometimes lack of handling at an early age, beginning as young as two weeks old. Pups which are not handled gently and often by the breeder do not get a strong olfactory and tactile bond with humans. This is often the case with puppy farmed dogs and dogs born to large breeders. This handling at such an early age causes a mild stress response in the tiny pup, which benefits its ability to cope with many situations which includes individuals and dogs in later life Nervous and worry aggression is usually defensive in nature, occasionally it is related to the sex of the individual. When the breeder was female, and extremely few males visited or handled the puppies, then the timidity and fear may be worse with males. This particular problem like interdog hostility, will manifest itself primarily with individuals instead of crowds. You will find that the dog will bark a great deal but will be below a table or behind a settee. The tail will be down and although it may appear overtly aggressive, the dogs balance and weight will be on the back foot not over the front feet. This demonstrates that the dog desires you to go away and isn’t initially attempting to bite or attack you. A gradual and careful introduction towards the stimulus that is causing the worry with positive reinforcement for calm behavior will be the way to overcome this kind of problem although the dog will rarely make a total and full recovery and will by no means be life and soul of the park and greeting parties. 3. Frustration Aggression Research has shown that dogs who’re not allowed to interact “normally” with individuals and dogs who had been prone to displays of bad temper and behaviour that was overtly aggressive are dogs that are usually restrained or restricted from normal interactions (interactions with individuals, other dogs, and the outside globe). The dog develops an intense desire to gain access to all of these issues he desires. This want can escalate into escape and roaming behavior, agitation, biting and unprovoked attacks. It is often observed in dogs that are left tied up in flats, left in gardens, or close to a window where they are able to see the issues they wish to interact with, but can’t get to them therefore display unprovoked aggression. To some extent, the aggression shown to the postman is according to frustration. I’ve noticed dogs attack their owner or perhaps a second dog in the home simply because it can’t get to the deliveryman. As with most aggressive behaviors early socialization and an understanding of how dogs learn and communicate are important. 4. Sexual aggression. This type of aggression is generally restricted to male dogs. They will mount both people as well as other dogs. Mounting activity directed towards humans might reflect a lack of opportunity for the dog to play with other dogs, or an over-attachment to people in early life, mounting on other dogs particularly if they initially try to place their heads more than the other dog’s necks may be associated to rank and control complex behavior. Castration and behavior modification can help with this problem. Permitting the dog to mate might often be recommended by the amateur dog professional, this normally makes the issue far worse. 5 Territorial Aggression This may be towards other dogs, individuals or both. By definition, territorial aggression ought to be directed toward members of the same species ie other dogs. Domestic dogs, nevertheless, seem to regard humans in this regard as conspecific, and consequently might direct territorial aggression toward us When dogs display aggression to strangers only on the home property garden, home, or yard, but do not respond aggressively to strangers on neutral territory, then territorial aggression is the likely diagnosis. You will find two main motivations for territorial behavior, control complex behavior ie dominance or fear/anxiety. It might be worse inside a little space like a car than in an open area. Some dogs like this may be fine in the house, but not so great within the garden. The only answer to this problem would be to work on the dominant/territorial problem inside a way in which a dog understands its position through a behavior modification programme utilizing position reinforcement techniques. Keep in mind not to praise for the cessation of poor behavior rather praise for that bad behavior not happening within the initial location. In other words, say the dog jumps up on somebody and also you say “OFF” if the dogs get off then don’t praise as you’ll be praising for the inappropriate behavior, which was the jumping. 6. Control Complicated / Dominant Aggression The word dominant is a dirty word in dog behavioral circles at present nevertheless if we comprehend the word means position and is far more complicated that just aggression, then to ignore this area of conflict would be remiss. The initial approach to other dogs is often cautionary and contains numerous status signals, like tail carriage held high and quickly moving from side to side, standing on tiptoe and so on. If the other dog submits, then all is generally fine, if not the fighting can be very noisy and in some instances quite serious. In both the final two examples, dominant and territorial aggression, I usually discover the dog will pull quite badly on the lead. These dogs may also display aggressive tendency towards members from the family members this could result in an attack if not controlled in their early stages. By working on a programme which will give the dog a purpose and a position in life, almost a job and teaching the dog to walk on a loose leash can occasionally overcome the problem. The type of plan I’d use is the NILIF plan, which stands for “Nothing in Life is Free”, See my website under dominance 7. Chase or Predatory aggression This may be directed at numerous things including dogs, cats, or anything that stimulates a chase response. Squirrels are a favorite, as their fast jerky movements seem to stimulate even the most placid of dogs. I see lots of predatory chase aggression in for instance Border Collies, in specific stimulants like bikes, skateboards joggers and vehicles. One of the key elements that distinguish predatory aggression from other types of aggression is the fact that movement frequently is the trigger . In the wild, this movement is in the form of running and escape attempts of a little animals. Predatory behavior may be seen in dogs of any sex and age. Dogs that show intense interest and turn out to be aroused or anxious by the movement or noise of children or other pets should be closely monitored at all times. Prognosis is not good for this kind of aggression. Reward based obedience training can help, nevertheless this really is only any use when the owner/trainer is in a position to continuously monitor the dog all the time. It is simpler to control the chase stimulus when it is directed at vehicles, joggers, or bikes. Two kinds of typical treatment’s consist of counter-conditioning used to alter the dogs’ perception of the falsely identified prey. Numerous also think punishment functions ie noise aversion when the behavior is initial stimulated. Throwing water from a car window or sounding a rape alarm or air horn at the precise time the dog takes off, throwing down a plastic bottle of stones from a passing bike or vehicle can occasionally alter this behavior. Nevertheless. To become effective, punishment must be seen as aversive and the timing of the punishment should be exact so that the dog associates the punishment using the behavior. Electric shock collars have also been recommended but aren’t part of treatment applications I would ever recommend. As talked about aggression often has its origins in poor breeding, lack of socialization, high prey drive, and poor fundamental coaching may also exacerbate the scenario. However, as stated before it could be related to medical circumstances and prior to embarking on a course of behavioral therapy have your dog checked more than to see if you will find any underlying medical circumstances. Learned aggression can normally be cured however, hereditary aggression can’t, it can only be controlled and hopefully contained. Castration occasionally helps, and ought to be regarded as in an general aggression reduction plan. With all aggression instances, you should think about a behaviorist or a dog trainer skilled in these issues, before the problems becomes life threatening either to the dog or the person they’re aggressive against.

This is the ideal time to trim dogs nails. The earlier you start, the simpler it will be for the hound to become used to the trimming. 4. Give a reward before you begin clipping. Before you begin trimming the nails of your pawed pal, gently grip and rub its paws. After your hound allows you to push gently against the middle of its paws, you should use praise to reward it. 5. Consider taking your canine to a veterinarian or groomer. This is a helpful step if your pooch is completely unhelpful when you try to clip its nails. pet steps are amazing! They are made from eco-friendly bamboo.(Not sure how being bamboo makes something eco-friendly) Bamboo is great and all but this thing is like a transformer. It folds up its bottom legs so you can put it away, bit its stairs also fold down. So its a ramp and a set of pet steps. It weighs 28 lbs give or take a umph… They have two styles on is two steps and the other is three steps. The two step is 13″ high and the three steps is 19 1/2″. They are both are 17 1/2″ wide. These dog steps are very stable. They are some sort of wood (pine/eco-friendly bamboo) so naturally they can hold a bit of weight. I stood on one briefly, but it didn’t trust it. So a 200 pound dog might wanna look into something a bit more sturdy. If you have a dog that weighs a bit less then 200lbs im sure you will be ok. The carpet is not that beautiful neutral tan color, it is in fact a slight pinkish color. But did I mention that its a freaking transformer and able to lay practically flat so you can slide this puppy under your bed for quick storage. Ive included a couple links to amazon for ya, so you can read some more reviews about them yourself.

pet stairs for large dogs can be very difficult. There are literally hundreds of selections out there. Everyone claims to have the best, but who really truly knows which one is? Lets talk thru a couple of pointers to help you along the way in your search for dog steps for large dogs.
Dog Steps MaterialFirst off your going to need to select a type of material that can support your dog. Most pet stairs are made from woods, plastics, metal and foams. Well since where shopping for pet stairs for large dogs, we would then rule out plastics and foams. The best bet would be to purchase a nice wood or metal. A nice set of wood dog steps for large dogs has certain advantages that metals dont have. First off they just look nicer. You can often stain them a certain color to match furniture. But there heavy and they are not very mobile. Its usually one of thous set it there and now it stays there things. But they also come with cabinets in the stairs sometimes. Which is a great place to keep dog toys or doggy treats. Metal pet stairs are great because they tend to be light weight. They are very mobile and some have a feature where they can be folded up. They are great for more then just the house, since they can be folded up, their perfect for the car. Be sure to read that box thou, cause some of the stairs cant hold the weight required for your large breed dog.
Read That LabelI mean just what the title says. Make sure you read that label. Some dog steps for large breeds just cant hold up the weight you need for your dog. Also the pet stairs will tell you the size of the stairs in its entirety. It would be a shame you pick a set of pet stairs that just dont plain fill the gap you need it to. Also, the label says how wide the steps are and how tall. Of course you need to pick a set of stairs wide enough for your dog. Also I would check to make sure they had some sort of traction device, so they don’t slip around.
Whats Every One Else Saying?Well you’ve heard my advice on pet stairs for large dogs, but what is everyone else saying? Well go ahead and check, here is a link to Amazon. Why Amazon you say? Well because there are real people telling real stories about the products you need or want to buy. I mean sure can go to a pet store and ask the sales rep which one is best, and he will probably point you to the most expensive one. Or worse, he simply might not know anything about them and BS and answer to you. Well thats why I like Amazon, there is no pressure to buy and I can read all the reviews I want. Plus its a real name brand store/website not some fly by night web site that Ive never heard of. On a final note, if you cant decide on what pet stairs to get. Why not get both? I mean your going to need them right? Set the wood stairs up in the bedroom and stick the metal out in the car. There you go done and done.
